THE SANDERS METHOD™

The Numbers Tell You What Happened.
We Help You Understand Why.

Most financial problems aren't just math problems. The Sanders Method™ looks beneath the numbers to understand the patterns, feelings, and needs influencing your financial decisions—then turns that understanding into practical action.

EVERY SESSION CONNECTS THREE THINGS

01
TEACH
Understand the financial topic.
02
UNDERSTAND
Explore how you feel about it and what may be driving the behavior.
03
ACT
Turn that insight into a concrete step in your financial plan.

"A budget doesn't fail because of math."

THE PROBLEM ISN'T ALWAYS THE PLAN

You Can Know What to Do
and Still Not Do It.

A budget can show you where your money should go. A credit report can show you what happened. A financial plan can give you the next step.

But knowing the answer doesn't automatically change the behavior.

Financial decisions can be influenced by stress, comfort, pressure, habits, priorities, and needs that aren't obvious on a spreadsheet. When those patterns aren't understood, the same financial problem can show up again - even after you've made progress.

That's why we don't stop at the numbers.

KNOW

Understand what the numbers are telling you.

NOTICE

Recognize the patterns influencing your decisions.

CHANGE

Build a practical alternative into your financial plan.

The goal isn't more financial information.
It's understanding what keeps getting in the way of using what you already know.

BEYOND THE SYMPTOM

Don't Just Change the Number.
Understand What's Driving It.

Most financial advice starts with the visible problem:

You’re spending too much.
Your debt is growing.
Your savings aren't where you want them.
Your credit needs work.

Those numbers matter - but they're the result.

The Sanders Method™ goes one level deeper. We look at the decisions and patterns producing those numbers and ask what may be driving them.

Then we use what we learn to change the financial plan itself.

THE SYMPTOM - What is happening financially.

THE PATTERN - What keeps happening in your decisions.

THE NEED - What that behavior may be doing for you.

THE ALTERNATIVE - A practical way to meet that same need differently.

THE GOAL ISN'T JUST TO REMOVE THE HABIT.

If spending is providing convenience, relief, connection, status, or another meaningful benefit, simply saying “stop spending” may not solve the underlying problem.

We work to identify what the behavior is providing and build a more affordable alternative that can serve that same purpose into the financial plan.

Treat the cause differently,
and the numbers have a chance to follow.

HOW WE GET BENEATH THE NUMBERS

Three Components. One Method.

The Sanders Method™ combines the way we create the conversation, the framework we use to understand what we're hearing, and a questioning technique that helps us move beneath the first answer.

01 — PRESENCE

Small Questions.
Real Conversations.

We start with simple, everyday questions instead of making the conversation feel like an interrogation.

That creates room to talk honestly about money, decisions, pressure, habits, and what was happening when those decisions were made.

The goal is a conversation that feels natural—not an examination.

02 — LENS

Listen for More
Than the Answer.

As you talk, we're listening for patterns, priorities, motivations, and the needs that may be influencing your financial behavior.

The framework stays in the background. You don't get lectured on theory.

Its purpose is simple: help us understand what may matter beneath the financial issue in front of us so we can ask better questions.

03 — TECHNIQUE

Follow the Answer
One Level Deeper.

When something important surfaces, we don't immediately jump to advice.

We use focused follow-up questions to move from what happened, to why it mattered, to what may have been driving the decision.

Then we connect that insight back to your financial plan.

PRESENCE creates the conversation. → LENS helps us understand it. → TECHNIQUE helps us go deeper.

But insight alone isn't the goal.
Understanding has to become action.

INSIGHT BECOMES ACTION

Every Session Follows
the Same Three Beats.

The topic changes. The process doesn't.

Each session starts with the financial issue in front of you, goes beneath the numbers to understand what may be influencing your decisions, and ends by putting what we learn back into your financial plan.

01 - TEACH

Understand the Financial Topic.

We start with the numbers.

Depending on where you are in the program, that might mean budgeting, credit, net worth, retirement, or another financial topic in your curriculum.

Before we explore the behavior, you need to understand the financial mechanics clearly.

02 - LADDER

Go Beneath the First Answer.

Then the conversation shifts.

We use focused, everyday follow-up questions to explore how you experience that financial topic and what may be influencing your decisions around it.

Instead of stopping at “I overspent,” we may explore what was happening, what the purchase provided in that moment, and why that mattered.

03 - ACT

Turn the Insight Into a Plan.

What we uncover has to become useful.

We connect the insight to a specific change in your financial plan.

When possible, that means finding a practical, more affordable way to meet the same underlying need instead of relying on willpower alone.

WHAT THIS CAN LOOK LIKE

FINANCIAL TOPIC
“I keep spending more than I planned.”

FIRST ANSWER
“I need to stop buying things I don't need.”

GO DEEPER
“What do those purchases give you in the moment?”

INSIGHT
“It's one of the ways I reward myself after a stressful week.”

ACTION
Instead of building a plan that simply says “stop spending,” we can create a lower-cost reward that still gives the client something to look forward to - and budget for it intentionally.

Teach the topic.
Understand the behavior.
Change the plan.

That is the Sanders Method™ in practice.

A STRUCTURED PROCESS

Not Random Conversations.
A Curriculum With Direction.

The Sanders Method™ is organized around the financial topics that matter at each stage. Every session has a purpose, while still leaving room to understand the behaviors and decisions connected to that topic.

MKK CREDIT

Credit Track

Designed for clients working to strengthen the financial behavior surrounding their credit journey — not simply work on what appears on the credit report.

01 — BUDGETING

Learn where your money is actually going and build a realistic structure around your income and expenses.

But the conversation doesn't stop with the numbers.

We also explore the decisions surrounding your spending: where the plan tends to break down, what was happening when those decisions were made, and what those choices may have been providing in the moment.

The goal is to turn that understanding into practical changes inside the budget itself.

02 — CREDIT

Learn how credit works and how everyday financial decisions connect to the larger credit picture.

Then we look beneath those decisions.

We explore the habits, pressures, priorities, and patterns that may influence how you use credit and connect what we learn to concrete actions going forward.

Repair the credit.
Strengthen the behavior behind it.

MKK WEALTH

Wealth Track

Designed to move the conversation beyond today's financial pressure and toward the decisions that shape your longer-term financial life.

01 — NET WORTH

Understand what you own, what you owe, and the financial position you're starting from.

Then explore how you feel about that position, what your numbers mean to you, and how those feelings may influence the decisions you make next.

02 — RETIREMENT

Learn the financial concepts involved in preparing for retirement and explore the habits, priorities, and decisions that influence how you prepare for your future.

The conversation connects the future you're trying to build with the financial behavior happening today.

03 — LEGACY

Define what you want your money to make possible beyond today.

Explore what legacy means personally to you and connect that larger purpose to the financial decisions and behaviors you're building now.

Know where you stand.
Understand where you're going.
Build with intention.

THE TOPIC GIVES THE SESSION DIRECTION.
THE CONVERSATION HELPS US UNDERSTAND THE PERSON BEHIND THE NUMBERS.

TEACH LADDER ACT

Learn the financial topic.
Explore what may be influencing your decisions.
Turn what we learn into a concrete action in your plan.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions Before You Start.

The Sanders Method™ goes deeper than traditional financial education, but the purpose stays practical: understand what is influencing your financial decisions and turn that understanding into action.

What is The Sanders Method™?

The Sanders Method™ is MKK Financial’s root-cause financial coaching methodology. Instead of stopping at what the numbers say, we look at the decisions, habits, priorities, and patterns surrounding them.

Each session follows a structured process: learn the financial topic, explore what may be influencing your decisions around it, and turn what you uncover into a concrete action in your financial plan.

Is The Sanders Method™ therapy?

No. The Sanders Method™ is financial coaching and education - not therapy, counseling, or mental health treatment.

The conversations may explore how you feel about money and what may be influencing your financial behavior, but the purpose is to help you better understand your financial decisions and translate that understanding into practical action.

Why talk about feelings when the problem is financial?

Because knowing what to do and consistently doing it are not always the same thing.

A budget can tell you how much you planned to spend. It cannot automatically explain why the plan keeps breaking down.

The Sanders Method™ helps explore what may be happening around those decisions so the financial strategy can account for the person actually making them.

What happens during a Sanders Method™ session?

Every session follows the same three-part structure:

TEACH - Learn the financial topic.

LADDER - Explore what may be influencing your decisions around that topic.

ACT - Turn what you learn into a concrete action in your plan.

The topic gives the session direction. The conversation helps us understand the person behind the numbers.

What financial topics can we work through?

The curriculum depends on where you are in your financial journey.

The Credit Track focuses on the financial behaviors surrounding budgeting and credit.

The Wealth Track moves into net worth, retirement, and legacy.

The topics change as your financial life changes, but the Sanders Method™ process remains consistent.

What if I already know how to budget?

Knowing how to build a budget is different from understanding why you may not consistently follow one.

If the numbers make sense on paper but the same financial patterns continue showing up, the conversation can move beneath the mechanics and examine what may be influencing those decisions.

Will you tell me what stocks or investments to buy?

No. MKK Financial does not provide investment advice, portfolio management, securities recommendations, or individualized recommendations to buy or sell investments.

Our work is financial coaching and education focused on helping you understand your financial position, behavior, priorities, and decisions.

Do I have to be an MKK Credit client to use The Sanders Method™?

No.

The Sanders Method™ is used across MKK Financial. It is incorporated into qualifying MKK Credit programs, used within MKK Wealth coaching, and is also available as ongoing standalone monthly coaching.

What is the difference between the structured programs and monthly coaching?

The structured programs move through a defined curriculum over a set number of sessions.

Monthly coaching is ongoing and focuses on the financial issue currently in front of you while continuing to use the same Sanders Method™ process.

The structured programs provide a defined path. Monthly coaching provides continued access to the conversation as your financial life changes.

What happens if we identify a spending habit I keep repeating?

The goal is not simply to tell you to stop spending.

We look at what that spending may be doing for you - convenience, relief, reward, status, connection, or another practical or emotional need.

Then we work to build a more sustainable alternative into your financial plan that can serve the same underlying need without relying on willpower alone.

Does The Sanders Method™ guarantee financial results?

No. Financial outcomes depend on many factors, including your circumstances, decisions, consistency, income, expenses, credit history, and other conditions outside MKK Financial’s control.

The Sanders Method™ provides education, structure, coaching, and a process for turning financial insight into action. Specific outcomes are never guaranteed.

THE METHOD IN ONE LINE

Understand the decision.
Understand what’s driving it.
Build the action around both.

Ready to turn the conversation into action?

FROM DEBT TO LEGACY.

Understanding the Numbers Is Important.
Understanding What Drives Them Changes the Conversation.

Financial knowledge tells you what to do.

The Sanders Method™ helps you examine what may be influencing the decisions behind the numbers - then turn that understanding into practical action.

Whether you're working on credit, building toward longer-term financial goals, or looking for continued coaching, start where you are.

TEACH → LADDER → ACT

Learn the financial topic.
Understand what may be influencing the decision.
Build the next action into the plan.
